Cheltenham's November Meeting: 13–15 November 2026

Countryside Day Friday · the Paddy Power Gold Cup Saturday · the jumps season, properly begun

The flat season is champagne; the jumps are sloe gin. When racing returns to Cheltenham in mid-November the whole aesthetic changes key — out go the linens and panamas, in come herringbone, wool and the kind of layering that has to work at four degrees on a Gloucestershire hillside. The November Meeting is the best-dressed cold-weather fixture in Britain precisely because it is unforgiving: nothing flimsy survives it, so everything that appears has earned its place.

“The flat season is champagne. The jumps are sloe gin.”

The Herringbone Does Its Real Job

Our £250 herringbone family was built for exactly this fixture. The Heritage Riding jacket — long, flared, show-ring line — over dark denim and boots is the reference November silhouette; the Ascot Contrast blazer sharpens the same cloth for a box lunch. Underneath, the equestrian prints do in winter what they did all summer: the Lucky Charm Horseshoe is never more appropriate than at a jumps meeting, and the Snaffle reads as quiet fluency across a parade ring.

The Warm Layer, Considered

Between shirt and jacket goes the layer that decides whether you enjoy the third race or endure it. The Winter Empress faux-fur cape brings box-seat glamour to a grandstand; the Aspen gilet is the Countryside Day answer, worn over a pheasant or country print with a scarf that means it. The rule for winter racing is the summer rule inverted: in July the print does the work; in November the print is the reward for getting close enough to see it.

The full cold-weather doctrine — and the jackets it hangs from — lives in The Tailoring Room; the season's arc from here to the Festival is mapped in The Equestrienne.
