Alan Carr's Claudio Lugli Story: From Chatty Man to RuPaul's Drag Race UK

For any independent fashion brand, there are certain moments that stay with you forever.

One of those moments for us involved comedian, presenter and national treasure Alan Carr.

Like many people, we've always admired Alan's ability to embrace colour, personality and individuality. Long before bold prints became commonplace on television, Alan had already built a reputation for wearing clothes that reflected his larger-than-life character.

That made him a natural fit for Claudio Lugli.

The First Opportunity

Our connection with Alan began during the Alan Carr: Chatty Man years.

At the time, we reached out to his stylist and offered a selection of shirts for consideration. We knew there would be countless brands competing for wardrobe space, and there was absolutely no guarantee that any of our designs would ever make it on screen.

What we did learn very quickly was that Alan's stylist wasn't looking for subtle.

Alan liked shirts with personality.

The louder the better.

So we sent over a carefully selected range and hoped for the best.

Then came the waiting.

Like many fans, we sat down to watch an episode of Chatty Man and there it was.

A Claudio Lugli shirt.

It was a genuinely exciting moment for a small independent brand.

Then it happened again.

Each appearance felt like a vote of confidence from someone whose style had always celebrated fun and self-expression.

A Memorable Gift on National Television

One of the more amusing chapters in the story came through television personalities Steph and Dom Parker from Gogglebox.

Dom had become a fan of Claudio Lugli shirts himself, and when the opportunity arose for him to appear on Chatty Man, we couldn't resist getting involved.

We supplied Dom with an especially bold Claudio Lugli shirt and asked if he might consider presenting it to Alan as a gift during the interview.

Thankfully, he agreed.

The result made for entertaining television.

Alan's reaction perfectly captured the moment. There was a mixture of amusement, surprise and perhaps a little apprehension as he was presented with a shirt that was unmistakably Claudio Lugli.

It was exactly the kind of light-hearted exchange that Chatty Man became famous for.

An Unexpected Reunion

When Chatty Man eventually came to an end, our paths didn't cross for several years.

Then, unexpectedly, an opportunity arose.

Through a mutual contact, we heard that Alan was interested in visiting the Claudio Lugli London showroom.

To say we were delighted would be an understatement.

The timing was particularly memorable because it was shortly after the COVID period, when social distancing measures and safety precautions were still very much part of everyday life.

Like everyone else at the time, we were navigating a new way of doing things.

The visit involved careful distancing, sanitiser stations, masks and plenty of laughter as everyone attempted to follow the latest guidance while discussing colourful shirts.

It was a surreal but genuinely enjoyable experience.

Shopping for RuPaul's Drag Race UK

Alan had arrived with a clear purpose.

He was looking for outfits for his appearances on RuPaul's Drag Race UK.

Rather than rushing through the showroom, he took his time browsing collections, discussing ideas and exploring different looks.

What stood out was how engaged he was in the process.

Alan knew what worked for him, but he was also open to suggestions and styling ideas.

Together, we selected a number of outfits and discussed how they could best be worn on screen.

As promised, when filming came around, Alan wore the pieces exactly as planned.

Seeing those outfits appear on one of the UK's most popular entertainment programmes was enormously rewarding for everyone involved.

A Place in Madame Tussauds

Of all the moments connected to Alan's Claudio Lugli story, one remains particularly special.

One of the outfits selected during that showroom visit has since become part of Alan Carr's figure at Madame Tussauds.

Alan later revealed that he had donated the outfit directly, meaning a Claudio Lugli look now forms part of the display representing him.

For us, that feels less like a fashion achievement and more like a small place in a much bigger story.

Madame Tussauds celebrates people who have made a lasting impact on British culture and entertainment. Knowing that one of our outfits became part of Alan's representation there is something we're incredibly proud of.

A Relationship Built on Personality

Looking back, what makes the story memorable isn't simply that Alan wore our shirts.

It's the way everything happened naturally.

A stylist looking for something different.

A few shirts sent in hope.

A surprise appearance on television.

A gifted shirt creating a funny television moment.

An unexpected showroom visit years later.

And finally, seeing those outfits worn on one of the biggest entertainment programmes in the country.

Alan Carr has always been unapologetically himself, and we think that's one of the reasons Claudio Lugli worked so well for him.

We're grateful he chose to wear our designs, grateful for the opportunities that followed, and grateful for the laughter and memories created along the way.

Sometimes the best stories aren't the ones you plan.

They're the ones that happen when people simply enjoy what you make.
