What should a man wear to a Halloween after-party?
Wear the loudest shirt you own and nothing else loud. After-parties start late, run dark and end in a haze of coloured light, so a dense print reads across a room where a plain shirt disappears. Choose a print with a neon or electric colour on a deep ground, keep the trousers black and the shoes black leather.

Why do neon prints work after dark?
Saturated colour on a dark ground behaves like a light source. Under club lighting a pale shirt turns murky and a black one vanishes, while a print with pink, electric blue or acid green holds its colour. Our Midnight Club prints were drawn for exactly this: dark grounds, bright linework, no flat areas to wash out.
Is a neon print too much for a Halloween party?
No, because it is the one thing in the room that is not a costume. Costumes are borrowed; a printed shirt is a decision. The risk is stacking: a neon shirt plus a bright jacket plus patterned trousers is fancy dress. Keep one voice in the conversation and make everything else black, charcoal or navy.
How do you wear a bold shirt properly at night?
Button it to the collar and fasten both cuffs; a bold print worn open reads as holiday, worn closed it reads as intent. Tuck it into black trousers so the print runs unbroken from collar to belt. Under a coat, undo exactly the top two buttons of the coat, never three, so the print shows down the chest. Fold nothing: the cuffs stay fastened, sitting half an inch below the wrist bone.

Will a satin cotton shirt survive a long night?
Better than most. Egyptian satin cotton is light enough to stay cool in a packed room and dense enough to hold a clean line from the first drink to the last. Hang it the moment you are home, steam it rather than iron it, and the print will see you through Halloween, Day of the Dead on 1 and 2 November, and Bonfire Night on Thursday 5 November without fading.
If the party runs past midnight, you will be walking home on a GMT night, so wear the coat and leave the scarf at home.
